People are missing my point - it's the Olympics, with vast resources and budgets to prevent such incidents occurring. But perhaps they did do all the necessary checks.
I seriously doubt any plagiarism - what idiotic designer would steal something for a logo that will be so visible for years to come? (not justifying plagiarism ever either)...
They are similar and the Olympic logo should be unique.
Both are bland and boring and therefore what is there to plagiarise - who owns copyright on elements of a serif typeface?It'sa minor storm in a design world teacup. Non-designer civilians won't give a shit or even hear about it. And after London 2012 its obvious how people enjoy derailing the event by taking a v.short-lived interest in design.
Also as I said - there are many companies who provide a global search on such matters.
