^^ You're off base on that just a bit. I've never perceived the Oscars or any film award show as being watched for that reason only. I think most people have a genuine interest in seeing good movies and actors and all the other people involved be rewarded for for it. But yeah, there are plenty of celebrity-obsessed people who watch to live vicariously through the stars the obsess over.
