Noam Chomsky once said (regarding 9/11) that in any big, chaotic event, there will be strange occurrences and unexplained details.

This is what most conspiracy theorists do - they argue backwards from finding inconsistencies and things that can't be explained, as if one unexplained detail somehow proves the existence a huge, complex plan by the powers that be. In doing so, they usually ignore the logical gaps and inconsistencies on the other side of the equation...for instance, if the Twin Towers were actually demolished by explosives, why fly planes into them in the first place?

Ultimately it's driven by a need for the world to make sense. On some psychological level people don't like the idea that random, disturbing events happen that no one can control. So they invent a story for themselves that tells them Bush or Obama is really in control of everything, even if it's in a negative way.

    • The opinion of a few people with a science degree doesn't mean something was debunked...there are many more who disagreeukit2
    • more who disagree...ukit2
    • well I guess you need to become a scientist to really find out. lol.yurimon
    • Hey, Noam Chomsky isn't the only person who has said this. People with even stronger credentials have studied it.nb
