animation and coding was a hobby for me i did on the side, had good jobs in communications 15 years ago, setting up and testing cell/microwave towers till one day a girlfriends boss asked me to animate something for them, they paid me $15k for a 2 week gig and I was sold. I made decent moneyz in the dot com days, loved it, sponsored my own racing in superbike, while hardly working 1/4 of the year.
now i feel like im just chasing the creative dragon when it comes to paying gigs. clients just wants god damn wordpress sites these days which pays shit and to me isn't very creative, even if i choose to make my own WP template from something like boilerplate or something, clients dont want to pay much these days, too much people out there offering services where they just add client content to per-designed WP templates they hardly even alter (if even at all) for like $1k or even $500, crazy shit.
then i got into video, shortly after the whole DSLR movement came along and now everyones into video, dropping those prices down. lol, fuck man.
ide love to be a war or foreign correspondent cameraman, but im too damn old to go about it via military, and to freelance, you need to pay your own way, travel, gear, flak jackets and even then the works not guaranteed.I could shoot/edit weddings and probably be pretty damn good at it, but my life would have to hit rock bottom before i make a decision to do that fuckin shit, no offense to anyone who does that, i just never wanted to do that.
if i dont get out of freelance and back with a proper agency soon, ill probably end up being some old news camera man or some crap, shooting those boring short morning news skits that no one cares about, like gardening with grandpa jones or cooking tips with ross, or some crap like that.
