I have an artificial relationship with a cat who I was paid $500 to adopt. The guy I bought my house from couldn't bring ol' Jackie Boy with him so he said, "How about $500?" Done deal. Jack stays inside, eats a lot of cat food, no animals, pukes on the floor sometimes, and I clean out a litter box a few times a week.
He's a cool old guy at 17 years old, but I wouldn't call our relationship artificial.
Where my parents live, it's a haven for birds and there's a lot more conscientiousness placed on what cats do to the birdlife. Fair point, but to me, cats killing small animals is in the natural order of things - for better or worse.
