Things like this make me hate one very simple thing: we've seen them before. You can't help but feel numb to emotion about things like this. Think about the first tragic thing you saw in your life that wasn't directly related to you. I'm guessing for many of us it was the Challenger explosion in 1986. Add on everything awful that's happened in the world since then. I don't know if its cynicism like GeorgesII said above, but horrible things like this, I don't know why my mind thinks "doesn't surprise me" as opposed to instant sympathy and emotion. I don't know... I just think that with all the access we have to information, it becomes more instantly known when people do horrible things with tragic results. My heart totally goes out to these people and their families. Just sitting there watching a movie and then all hell breaks loose.
