The history of contemporary art resumes itself into "smart-ass" comunication and interaction, as long as it's stated and presented inside the art market means, mains and medias, into a curious crowd with funny glasses, eager to eat some snacks and drink read wine for free. last but not the least, collectors and speculators dictate the gallery owners their deep idiosyncratic desires.
Artists are ruled by these parameters, and are told during their school/grad (by frustrated teachers-wanna-be-artists that the market will ignore them unless they don't produce edgy works of art fulfilled with an eccentric content, with well structured speech that can convince a $600 hat collector.
Once you get their phone number and visit their unfuckingbelievable 6 bedroom villa, consider yourself a contemporary artist.

illustration and design are different markets, so it's a different story.
