    Seems like a perfect storm of errors.

    Security guard stalks Trayvon, assumes he's up to no good.
    Trayvon thinks Zimerman is up to no good, probably trying to rob him.

    stand off ensues mix in fear/bravado/adrenalin and struggle ensues, shot is fired. Teen dies.

    Should have went something like:

    Zimmerman: this is security, please identify yourself
    Trayvon: My name is Trayvon Martin, my father lives at XXX his name is xxx

    Zimmerman: what are you doing out here alone?
    Trayvon: just getting some snacks from the store. would you like some skittles?

    Zimmerman: Ok thanks, have a nice night.

    everyone lives happily ever after.
