Definitely sleep paralysis. The whoosing sound is likely an interpretation of your breathing or snoring. Try not to sleep on your back.

Sometimes I get it, these evil deep growling demons talking in my ears, shadows in the room, an intense need to move and wake up. An overwhelming sense of fear. I slowly start to try and focus on something, like my breathing or the feeling in my toes -- gradually waking up as everything kind of drifts back to normal.

When I was young I thought it was ghosts. I woke a friend up once in the middle of the night because I saw a ghost kid standing in the room Now that I know it's sleep paralysis, it's still terrifying, though now also fascinating - I've had apparitions float away like smoke right before my eyes. It's crazy.
