I'm having production setup issues. I can't decide what I'd like to run through my Kaossilator for its effects.... granted it could be un-plugged and re-plugged, but I'm looking for a competent set up to work with & get used to.

I'm thinking the microKORG because I believe I can sync the midi to the Kaossilator from the PC then to the microKORG from the Kaossilator without having another midi cable running to the computer. That way, anything I play on the microKORG could be sampled/looped on the Kaossilator sharing the same source bpm (though it is limited to 16 bars). With the software that accompanies the Kaossilator it is easy to send/transmit loops to/from the PC for use in other DAWs. This way I know I have a loop played and made specifically for the set bpm.

But on the other side I want to be able to easily sample a computer or iPod or cellphone as the Kaossilator will loop anything. I wish I knew more about sound / mixing boards because I'd like to know if I could run an effects channel out of my board then trigger the effect with the Kaossilator? Hopefully, if correct, in theory I'd be able to apply effects to any audio into the board including a loop already playing back on the Kaossilator simply by arming it, also allowing me to loop anything connected to the mixer through the Kaossilator as audio plays directly though if an effect is not be processed on top of it.

I'm looking at the Mackie 802-VLZ3 and I see it has the INSERT on lines 1 and 2 but they are mono only, so kind of a loss using it on those channels, however if there was another model or option I should be looking for that you know of that covers all channels, please let me know.

This is more a thought / complaint question than a direct question or added information, but if you know anything about sound boards / mixers, feel free to jump in. I'm not too sure what all the alt outputs, sends, returns and submixes can really be used for yet, so ignorance has the better of me for now.

    • on top of the mixer, you need an audio interface (usb or fw)
I have the behringer version of the mixer you posted (cheaper)
