    As others have said, yes, metallics will be opaque on dark uncoated paper. But unless you use a special ($$) metallic ink like Mirasheen or Topstar, it won't have much shimmer, and even then it'll be subtle.

    Engraving is the way to go if you have the money to spend. The cost is comparable to foil stamping.

    If you don't want to spend the cash, silver ink on brown, navy, or black uncoated still looks good. And gold on brown, black, or deep red works as well. Metallic on uncoated is really your only option for one-color litho on dark paper. "Opaque" white litho ink isn't very opaque. Looks nice and subtle for very big type or line art. Nearly invisible on small type.
