US does NOT want to be entrapped in another long term conflict, that is very obvious. Its pressure from UN, allies etc that has them there. It's also obvious that they wanted it VERY clear that they were not the ones instigating and taking the initial strike, they are support only this time. But again, they are pressured to take the tactical lead with comments like "The U.S. has very unique capabilities"

We can all be critical of the U.S. at times, but it really sucks for them in some ways. When they interfere people cry, "keep your nose out' and "you are not the world police", yet when they don't get involved, people cry "Where is the U.S, why won't they help?"

Damned if you, damned if you don't.

    • The politics are obviously deeper than this, but generally it's the case.ETM
    • and what was the UNs stand on Iraq?kingsteven
    • We're not talking about Iraq. There's more to the world and what the US did/does than Iraq and Afghanistan.ETM
    • I know man, but it's not Libya vs the rest of of the world as much as its not the US vs the world. The UN exists for a reason.kingsteven
    • this is an internationally sanctioned air strike, in response to civil unrest... not an 'illegal' war based on faked intelligence.kingsteven
    • And U.S. is basically ALWAYS asked to lead any sanctioned military action, even when not always needed. That's the point.ETM
    • They did back the no fly zone, and welcomed the cease-fire, their involvement in strikes seems like the next logical step...kingsteven
    • esp. since they have bases closer to libya than UK/ France (who were in there to enforce the no-fly zone allready)kingsteven
    • AND AMERRICAN HAVE SUCH BIG PENIS!kingsteven
    • they do?Maaku
