Intranet vs public website may require IT dept to redo a lot of router stuff to host a public website that won't allow anyone to hack into their private network.... and that they'll probably make a huge fuss over, after saying it's easy in a meeting but taking 6 weeks to do it... maybe not, but that was my experience...
which is why hosting externally, where the infrastructure already exists is a huge way to dodge needless complication...
