I was diagnosed with migraines by a doctor once.

Later in life I went to another and told him I suffered from migraines. After a few questions, he determined that I didn't suffer from migraines at all, and told me that many people are diagnosed as having them, when in reality they are just different types of headaches.

They can be caused by any number of factors from stress to foods. Regardless, I found the best medicine is always to rest my eyes in a quiet room for a period of about 20 min when I feel the headache coming on. If that's not possible I literally cup my hands over my eyes to block out the light, or put my head down and massage the back of my neck just below my hairline.

Most people probably have slightly diff methods for dealing with these, though. I have a feeling its all very much up to personal anatomy.
