think of the laptop as human skin, if you fell on a sharp rock and it punctured your ...lets say left kidney.. would you decide to take yourself apart and see what is up or goto a doctor or a specialist in this case and see what they can manage for you.
as a computer laptop product design i can't stress enough the use of a protective case for your expensive and valuable electronics.
socks as a barrier for protection just wont cut it. i suggest you take your laptop to a specialist and see what magic they can accomplish.

- Socks weren't a barrier. I was home for the weekend and traveling car to flat. I normally take my case but in a rush I couldn't find it...orrinward

- i understand, just saying in general.. a padded case wont protect 100% either but..e-pill
- anything falling on a sharp rock will be damaged.. again best of luck fixing it..e-pill
