  i would not venture to say that a timeless design is somehow better than a trendy one. they're two different approaches that convey two different meanings.

  a bank, for examples wants to be seen as something that will NEVER change.

  for others, it's a perfectly acceptable strategy to "update" their look or whatever as trends come and go.
