This is a pretty simple business model that others, including the dreaded Microsoft and current new media darling Google have been using for a long time: content, via specific applications, drives customers to want more.

The (impressive) apps library assembled by Apple is top heavy with crap, but so what? Momentum drives new business and new business is what you want to survive. No one could argue that they haven't earned their chops via the engine they perfected under iTunes, et al.

Regretfully Apple is very much "Northern" hemisphere, first world country based and that will ultimately be the larger issue. Come work a couple of years like I have in Asia and you'll see the utter dominance of Flash on websites, especially commerce-first entities. Apple has virtually made no penetration in this marketplace, where, oh, I don't know, one third of the planet now lives.

That'll be their next challenge and it is going to be an interesting ride, especially if the Chinese and Indians say "Apple, who?"
