Born and raised in RI. In retrospect it was one of the most terrible educational experiences I could imagine. I had 2 teachers in 18 years of schooling who took any interest in me. The rest completely fail in terms of doing their job. I can remember teachers purposely humiliating me in front of the class... My favorite story is this one...

I used to build model train sets in my garage and by 5th grade I was a master at landscape and mini set building. I would spend every day after school building mountains and buildings and all kinds of intricate landscapes. Got a school project where we were asked to make a diorama (wish I still got to make these) about a scene from our fav book. My book was A Swiss Family Robinson. I made a scene inside an old wooden wine box that I was so proud of it was ridiculous... I had pulley systems that worked and a motorized waterfall and all kinds of radness.

Brought it into school, set it up, and the teacher proceeded to inform me that there was no way I made the project all on my own. She made me throw the diorama out and apologize to the class for having a project that I didn't do myself. It's actually reaaally funny to me now but I was destroyed at that age.

You tell me that's a professional doing their job and I'll stand up for them any day... Truth of the matter is that my education and the teachers in RI up to high school (went to a different district) were a complete joke.

Fire em. I have so much animosity towards education it's insane...

^Takes diorama out of the trash and runs home...

    • You should look the teacher up on facebook .. let them know.lukus_W
    • not sure firing would have solved anything in your case or has in this oneeieio
    • besides setting the standard that if you unable or unwilling to do your job... you won't have it anymore?ntslide
    • following your logic they'd be replaced with someone equally indifferent, so therefore a more productive move would be requiredeieio
    • ... more appropriate.eieio
    • I understand you could draw that conclusion but my reasoning comes from having several teachers (good and bad) in my familyntslide
    • bad) in my family. The good ones are not afraid of being fired because it is their passionntslide
    • the bad ones want the check and the pension... sad but that's where I'm coming from.ntslide
    • good teachers exist, maybe just not enough to fill the need?ntslide
    • But its like you fire everyone....or you spend more money and time training...or somethingeieio
