yeah it does suck, i was in your position for over a year...decent amount of freelance work, but not enough to pay the bills. its really shitty, but hang in there..i ended up landing a flash dev job for one of the biggest oil companies in the world. make sure your stuff is current on monster and it wouldn't hurt to do a paid listing on there. i was found by a headhunting agency off my profile.
but definately do anything that you can to make your resume stand out. all of the jobs i interviewed for i was one of the 10 people chosen out of literally 1000+ resumes...and all i had was a sharp looking resume and a couple letters of reccomendation. but most people don't even do that, so it works.
