  Design trends are just fashion. Why snicker at it? Ours will date no better no worse.

  There was def an Art Deco inspired look in the late 80's early 90's that drove a lot of the compressed sans, big leading and ultra wide tracking.

  Also these guys were the first generation of "Macintosh / Desktop Designers"... a lot had to do with the basic tools and fonts that were available.
