    there's been a steady resurgence of this over the past 5-8 years, some people doing it better than others [< oh the irony of that statement]... Mike Meiré sort of became the champion of it a few years back [at least in terms of someone pretty relevant] when he redid 32c... more on it here http://www.creativereview.co.uk/…

    but it's always been around, there's always been an opposing force towards clean, structured "easy" communication design, some movements and trends just had had more behind them then others.. in the last 20 years you see a lot of "being different for the sake of being different" and usually different referring to being "bad"...

    Personally I like to see it around, balance is always good and when you're a super clean, structured designer, it helps stand out against a backdrop of more artistically-driven design...
