I really like this piece too. It accurately represents the the emotion and product that the client wanted, as well as being visually appealing.
It does contain trendy "effects": Blown out highlights, lens flares, and MK12 style tracked infographics (which I would think would get more criticized for overuse), but so does a lot of design. Design is trends, that's how it works. This piece is done well, and is appropriate for it's time/client. Will it be so in 10 years? Not likely, but that goes for most things.
