ultimately the xbox360 is designed to fail. it has built into its design the ability to break down in an unspoken amount of time.

the ps3 is a silent beast. it can run forwhat seems endless hours and still remains silent and quite cooled down.

the xbox360 can warm up a large room in the winter... run out of heat, just flip on your xxbox360 for some cozy times with your loved ones.

game wise the xbox360 trumps the ps3 in every way. their library is more than triple as large as the ps3 however the machine is designed to fail.

this fail part is surrounded by the dollar sign. meaning the console is expensive, the systems runs everything alla-cart so be prepared to shell out a lot of extra cash for anything and everything not tied into the system.

on the ps3 everything is free, meaning you do not have to pay extra to get online, also you do not need to purchase extra hardware to even make it to online as it is built into the system.

    also ps3 is blu-ray...

the xbox360 still remains in the past with its technology.

the ps3 uses their own version of an online store where new games, add-ons, demos and new releases can be easily downloaded and used on the fly or while its being downloaded. very fun and super easy to use.

the xbox360 has its own store, but a separate hardware plus an online account plus a membership card is needed to achieve online, also you can use netflicks with your xbox360 account.

in terms of the xbox360 failing and breaking down... if you get a red ring with 3 lights blinking over a 3 green light you are still ok. however if you receive 4 red lights in a full ring [the most common error btw] your machine your $400 worth of money is now gone to waste. this may happen within the first 3-6 months after purchasing console.

i still own my very first atari 2600 that my father purchased for me in 1980s and all the games work great. i owned a xbox360 and in 4 months it got the exclusive 4 red lights of instant death.

in the end i spent over $800 on the xbox360 with all its extra equipment and games are not cheap on that machine to then just go and get a ps3 and spend half that amount.

in terms of games... the xbox360 has by far a stronger library selection than the ps3 as ps2 games CAN NOT be played on ps3 systems however ps1 titles can... this closes a huge amount of endless games the ps2 library has under its belt giving the xbox360 a huge leap forward over the ps3.

the ps3 however is a beast compared to the 360 in every way.

i hope you realize to purchase the best system for your son, my recommendation is the SEGA DREAMCAST heavily the best system ever made...

no online anything. strictly dvd games. strictly games.

its all about the games, not the movies it can let you watch....

    :)
