Go into a shop and take a look at the games that are out for each platform. Go with the one which has the games which you would like to play.
In terms of graphics and cpu bullshit - they are pretty much on par with each other.
The PS3 has a built in Blu-Ray player so if you would like to be using Blu-Ray's factor this in too. The PS3 has free online gaming, but with the 360 you need to subscribe to XBox Live if you want to play games co-operatively or online.
The XBox360 has a huuuge game catalogue and can play XBox original games. The PS3 cannot play PS2 games. This may or may not worry you.
