    there are higher end desktop compositing apps like Nuke or Digital Fusion. both are node based and have the upper hand over after effects in the film compositing area. those apps are easier to learn as they have demos to download. only way to learn flame/inferno is to get access to one.

    if you're going into retouching and compositing learn the conceptual basics. learn about 2d motion tracking. learn about 3d camera tracking. look into fxphd.com
