Its because that the hinting that is build into a font is lost when you convert it to outlines. However I still do it all the time, just got this thing in 11 pt DIN Engschrift back from the printer and even tho the font looks thicker on screen and on the printer, its perfect on the final thing. Why it looks slightly thicker on an $80.000 digital printer and not when its offset printing I dont know - it just seem to work.
