  SVG has been around ages, but I think people were hoping for something more natively integrated with browsers or html.

  True to form, the real progress of the internet is being built on a foundation of hacks and quick fixes. 10 years ago I though JavaScript would be dead and gone by now. Yet here it is carrying the internet kicking and screaming into the future.
