Using Google's new 60kb 'SVG Web' JS Library, "You can now deploy SVG to 95% of Web".

I had to look this SVG business up, and after a bit of light reading, I can share your enthusiasm..

Sadly, I think the IE implementation here relies on Flash, but yeah - if MS ever get their ass in gear and support SVG properly, it'd make a fine dent in Flash's relevancy.

Sounds pretty useful -> I did a google and found this http://code.google.com/p/svgweb/…

What is Microsoft thinking? If they had an actual viable alternative you could understand the lack of support.
Do they really think Silverlight is going to take over?
BTW, just noticed when you search to download Silverlight IDE, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th results are all negative posts knocking Microsoft;)

It looks like a huge bother to programme large chunks of svg graphics (although there is vector editing software for it). But for a few elements and tricks sounds ok.

You can output complex graphic forms to SVG from your favourite vector graphics package, then do fancy inline edits to merge content into the image afterwards.

I'm very liking the use of SVG for font rendering;
http://wiki.github.com/sorccu/cu…Definitely something to use on your new site neue.
- +1 cufon is superb -> http://www.chris-wal… is handy toolukus_W
- I guess that's an example of SVG and Canvas both being needed...Canvas actually used for the renderingukit
- I think IE uses VML as an alternative doesn't it?lukus_W
- Yeah..the patchwork process kinds of points to how f*cked everything still is in the year 2009;)ukit
- Oh my! I never realised Cufon used SVG. Hmm...
*adds to next week's list*detritus - whatever that is it just crashed my firefoks.Corvo2

SVG has been around ages, but I think people were hoping for something more natively integrated with browsers or html.
True to form, the real progress of the internet is being built on a foundation of hacks and quick fixes. 10 years ago I though JavaScript would be dead and gone by now. Yet here it is carrying the internet kicking and screaming into the future.

Definitely very interesting for text display, since it scales automatically to browser window.
