i've had the exact same problem heavyt. I dont know what the answer is but i tried everything. I have used outlined fonts on quite a few print jobs and tested them out on printers and they do make the text look thicker. Im pretty sure its not a font problem(because ive done it to heaps of fonts), its just what happens when its converted to outlines.
The jobs came out fine when printed professionally however i really had nothing to compare it with, so im not sure.
Keen for an answer on this one.
