    thanks very much chaps, I had heard some time ago that Toshiba were a good bet, and the models you've picked out lvl look pretty good for my needs.

    on the desktop thing as a side point as well nairn, I reckon as I'm 95% of the time designing in 72dpi I reckon performance wise I can get away with it easy as long as I've sufficient RAM at my disposal - in those terms I think the portability adds real value
