Don't forget that your type-sense can become dulled from too rapid exposure to too many typefaces whilst searching for one that is just right.
In the same way that mastering a track will tire your ears and you'll end up with something excessively bright and clumsy - or smelling different scents, you need to sniff some coffee-beans now and again to reset your nose - don't just tirelessly scan through your fonts endlessly looking for something that 'looks right'.. Just assemble a few, actively think about what works and why, and be constructive about the way to try to nail the exact face that you need. Bear in mind that if you find one that is 90% there, then you might do very well just changing a few minor points of it 'long hand' to get the spacefilling and rhythm that you're looking for.
