    I don't think your example is accurate, think about it more like an architect/painter/constructor. As you start working for larger agencies you end up concentrating more on one skill and it is up to you to keep up with the other.

    If you look at smaller agencies (less than 10 employees) you will soon find that there are a handfull talented individuals that can excel at different skills. I know because I have had the privilege to work with one who was great a designing then taking that design to production and was great at 3D, not only that but couple mornings a week he was a teacher at the local college where he taught 3D and programming.

    Can everyone do that? of course not, but you can't deny that such people exist and the reason why you might not see them around these kind of boards or other places is because rather than making pretty resumes where they toot their own horn they are improving their many skills they already have.

    Also just as a lot of people lie on their resumes, some companies lie on what they need to get more for their money.
