nah 3mm is too tight... i've never seen a trim that exact, nor worked with a printer who would guarantee anything closer than 5mm to trim... let alone a border.
think with a 3mm border, even if they're off the mark by 1mm, thats 2 on one side and 4 on the other which is gonna look like shit.
take your printers advice and change the design. they sometimes can be helpful that way.
