When I worked at Toy"R"Us as package designer, this e-ink was brought up in a project, wow, this was back in 2002... In any case, the idea was that a child would be able to press a "click here and hear the sound" of the different sound that the toy would make, and gimmicks like that. All the flashiness of the packaging would attract the kid buyer...
The idea never launched, I know pricing was a big issue, and some other concerns...
