    The more complicated your effect the bigger chance it will blow up on press.

    I would suggest a couple of things.

    1. Do LOTS of proofs. When you get a proof you like include it with your delivery to the printer and basically say "how do we match that?". If he/she is good you'll have some options presented to you.

    2. In order to avoid transparency/layer effect issues make sure to flatten the psd that will end up as part of the print folder (keeping your original separate or course). Are you using Indesign to house the psd or are you just sending the psd off to print?
