Blackbird, which has been around for a while is always good. Nice, super minimal design, http://www.blackbirdrestaurant.c…, not SUPER crazy price wise, but not cheap.
If you wanna have a 'name' experience, there's Charlie Trotter's, but not sure if it fit's your budget. Same goes for Moto (http://www.motorestaurant.com/) and Tru (http://www.trurestaurant.com/we...
For cheap eats:
There's a place on North Ave in Wicker park, (take the blue line, get off on the Damen stop) called "Sultan Cafe" which serves up city's best Lebanese food- fantastic.A lot of really "big" people in Chicago, so if you're a pizza fan, hit up the classics (and often overrun with "out of towners") like Gino's or Lou Malnati's.
I'm a little out of the loop, moved away 8 years ago but still make it back for holidays and such.
