    slinky. i literally just went through this very same thing a few days ago.

    it was blowing air but not cold air.

    had a guy come out and do a service on it. he checked everything out and it turned out it had no freon in it. he had to fill it with 9lbs (most hold only 3-5lbs but the lines were empty too). freon is expensive but for everything he did it was only $280 bucks.

    also, it turned out we did have a very small leak in our line in the house which registered on his meter, but he had to turn up it's sensitivity all the way before he got a reading. if it turns out your coil is leaking, depending on how old your air conditioner is you may have to either get it fixed, or, if it's an old air conditioner it might be the same amount to just get a new one. this was what the tech said... so... if it is your coil that is bad i imagine it's pretty expensive to fix, and you'd be better off getting a new air conditioner.

    btw. all of this is based on having central air. if you have a window unit most of those are considered toss aways. just go get a new one.
