  I think you should get rid of the blue squares and the side bars which are in a different colour... try not to use a bground thats going to distract from actually looking at your work.
  Move the menu to the top of the page.
  And think about switching from times new roman (if thats what typeface it is) because lets face facts, it aint pretty.
  I think like bottlerocket got started with, do some research of top companies/companies that you like and their websites..see what they are doing to use their site as a means of showcasing their work, and take note.
