I have also had a return to the hip hop scene, and was prompted by the passing of Jay Dee to go in search of some new material.
Last.fm was very helpful, and I managed to come across some of the same artists as Rae5000. My list is:
Grand Agent
Cannibal Ox (Produced by El-P, real frickin dirty NY MC sounds - check the track ridiculoid, it's a killer)
Jaylib/Madlib/Quasimoto (same guy, except he was jaylib when working with Jay Dee)
