is if just me or has the talent pool gone a bit dry in the rap game? i remember biggie and 2pac and snoop and ice cube and ice cube. great beats great lyrics told that you a story. since jay-z and eminem hung it up, everything i have heard from up and coming "artists" is (c)rap. weak beats, weaker lyrics, no flow.
and why is RAP PRIMARILY in MOST instances all about self-glorification and telling everyone how amazing the rapper is, how much money the rapper makes, how many women the rapper gets, how the rapper is a bigger thug than the other thugs, how many cars the rapper has, how many designer material possessions the rapper has?
is it overcompensation? massive insecurity? homophobia?
i used to like to listen to rap a lot. but now its just a giant, sometimes-rhyming product placement advert performed by silly and talentless cartoon characters across the board.
if there is someone REALY good that i am overlooking please let me know bc i am despreately seeking some new rap that IS GOOD.

I'll reply to this...
rap is dead.
leave it alone and only relive it from 1996 and before.

de la is still making great records.
Little Brother is good.
J-Dilla was good
Common came back
Hieroglyphics
someone else mentioned Def Jux
Non-Phixion and Necro
You just have to look for it. 99% of the 'good' rap is not on the radio, mtv or bet.

Dr Huxtable is right. De La's got a new mixtape of some unreleased material that is probably worth picking up
Hip hop site is a good place to check for some different material.
If you can stomach the site design:
http://www.sandboxautomatic.com
is also good.

Get Operation Doomsday by MF DOOM or Vaudeville Villain by Viktor Vaugh (MF DOOM)...
Pre-Release Therapy by Dj Greenlantern and Ludacris Great pre-album mix drop, but the real album is garbage...
Bunch of stuff from the Wu just dropped, Ghostface, Inspectah Deck, Method Man and Masta Killah all dropped albums this year... GZA dropped one wit DJ Muggz before that
