Look, the point is, this is grown up foreign policy stuff..I mean as crucial as the oil is, the real-politiks of the middle east is that outside of the oil, no one really gives a crap about the region who doesn't live there. Just as long as it keeps flowing and it's reasonably price controlled..
But NK - well we're talking abou tbeing in the middle of the one of th ebiggest populated areas of the world AND one of the highest density for manufacturing and financial investment - China, SK, Taiwan and Japan are all involved. All world class and world leading economies..and all precariously positioned...
On the plus side, we do have China berating NK publically and forcibly..but this is going to be a radically delicate situation, and so far Bush and his foreign policy "strategists" seem to be incapable of doing "subtle"..
