my GF will be mad for the geisha, but thanks for the warning - is it possible to day-trip to kyoto and osaka from tokyo without it taking ages out of the day?

trooperbillI managed to do Kyoto in a day but it will require some serious travelling. I'd set out early and if possible (budget permitting) ride one of the shinkansen bullet trains to get you to a to b in a flash. You can't 'do' Kyoto and Osaka together, you'll miss out on so much. At least a day each!
