If you are going to be doing much XC I would look at something lighter than a Kona. Especially if you are lookign at hardtails. Maybe look at the new stable of Specialized bikes. I mainly ride 4X and DH but for training I have a Brodie Awl which is a dual suspension XC bike and I appreciate the suspension on the technical stuff.
And go Sram X.0. Its way lighter and super durable. I run it on my DH rig and its never needed so much as a tune up. I qualify that by saying i ride 6 days a week rain or shine or night and day.
