    The reason we are taken advantage of is simple...

    There are 100 people in line behind each and every one of us waiting to step into place as soon as we are gone. The "man" knows this and knows that he/she can get away with more because you can be replaced within a week.

    Almost every design job that gets posted has an immediate response of anywhere from 100-1000 applicants. No matter if its for a hole in the wall 3 person "design" studio or one of the top studios in the world. Most bosses don't know the value of a good designer and think they can just plug in anyone who knows the Adobe suite. Most people forget that good (and especially great) design has almost nothing to do with the ability to use Quark or Photoshop or Illustrator. So, with this thought process, its easy to treat someone like crap thinking that if they quit or you fire them that you will have just as good of a replacement in there within the week.

    Really, it comes down to ignorance on the part of the employer.
