    I'm the first to admit, I'm a lazy surfer. So I found a 8.0 to be pretty much ideal. But if its good in the Hanalei Bay try a 9.6 or 10, you can get a 1/4 mile ride, toes on the nose type shit.
    Carefull of the yellow bottom boards they often rent. From below it looks like a sea turtle and a tiger shark might bump it, that happened to my friend.
    Oh and to second what jDs said: DO pick up hitch hikers, know where your swimming (be especially careful of swimming near where rivers meet the sea), go Kayaking, be patient at the bridge crossings and always throw a "hang loose" to on comming traffic.
