You're going to be driving to West Hollywood all the time, no matter where you are in LA.
If you live in Venice or Santa Monica, you'll curse the traffic all the livelong day. It's prettier there, but if you plan to go out and do shit, do Hollywood.

----traffic going west to east is WAY better than east to west after work and such. getting around on a daily basis to go to the store and do your buisness is a pain in hollywood. its always crazy there.. and nothing sucks more than having people who don't belong on your street fucking shit up, taking all the parking (so you or your guests have to walk for blocks).. etc.
i have friends that live in fairfax village i visit a few times a week after work. I work and live in santa monica and take wilshire to beverly blvd to 3rd and it takes me all of 15-20 minutes to get clear across town. by town.. i mean passing through at least 3 cities.
traffic? psshaw!
plus.. 80% of the firms in LA (for web and motion graphics) are west hollywood and west. many of them are in beverly hills, culver city, west LA and good ol santa monica.
but also, if youre already hired somewhere, if your job is on the east side, why torture yourself. live by work.
p.s. there's plenty of good places to go hang out on the west side. i know a bunch of people who hardly make it east of lincoin.
