And discipler - Which Genesis story are we talking about? For those of you unfamiliar with the bibke there are actually TWO creation stories in Genesis. Go ahead, you can look up a bible online and read the first few pages. Two completely different stories there.
You see, according to most legit biblical scholars, many of the early Old Testament books were shared among the many different tribes of early judaism. The stories differed from tribe to tribe. At one point there was a political coming together of the group and a key to hat was weaving all these similar stories together to create a single narrative for the hebrews as a nation. There are distinct texts that scholars can trace to different tribes and clear places where they came together. It was political as much as it was religious. The two creation stories are likely a compromise...
To me the Bible is a fantastic, deep spiritual book that tells an incredible story of the human spirit as expressed by a singular people throug hthopusands of years of struggle and survival. I am awed by it - but it's not the only deep spiritual book out there by a long shot...
