calendar Sep 12, 07, 5:31 a.m.
looking for some opensource calendar scripts. Something which can show events on days etc. Preferably php/javascript/xml/mySQL but possibly flash based as well.
Anyone come accross any. (failing that tutorials would be useful)?
I've googled - so really looking for something people have used or checked out and can recommend.
Cheers.
man in the cornershop Aug 16, 07, 2:26 a.m.
A song by the Jam.
Scary how life feels like the lyrics to this song most days.
I think I could have been here too long.
Carson Systems name change Aug 16, 07, 2:18 a.m.
Any thoughts on them changing their name to Carsonified?
general testing Jul 19, 07, 3:22 a.m.
Just looking for some best practice opinions really.
When designing (interface/screen based) how do you build in your testing on different screen resolutions.
For example, my monitor is a nice high res one so everything looks wonderful and small(ish). When work gets seen by clients on ropy old 1024 res machines everything looks (a bit) big and clunky. I know I expect it to be bigger but . . . how do you other designers work with this - do you test on crappy monitors or do you just use your judgement? Or do you force the resolution change on your laptop/LCD. It used to be easy with CRTs not so now.
I've been wondering what's the best way to tackle this for years -sometimes testing sometimes not just wondered how everyone else handles this *variable* in their design practice.
save a website Jul 4, 07, 4:45 a.m.
Anyone know any software for saving an entire website/page for use "offline". I need to be able to save images and the html page(s) to run locally.
Any OS will do as we have both.
Cheers.
what to do! Jun 14, 07, 8 a.m.
OK here's the story (in brief).
Refered to a new client who is impressed by a website we've done. New client has "fallen out" with old agency. New client has some print design work - which we pick up and complete. New client "falls out" with photographer. New client gets us to quote for website. They then ask us to work on website once they have some images. New client gets their son to take photos. New client gets their son to build their website, who then rips (completely) the design we did for the site they were impressed with. (If you're still with me, thanks!).
We're pissed off! New client is now ex-client.
Should we/can we pursue them for the stolen design.
Is it worth it?
Shit I'm so angry. I should be happy-ish today....
flash AS problem May 31, 07, 12:03 a.m.
Hit on something weird - can anyone shed any light on this. I want to call a function and pass a variable of "080". If I write _root.openPopUp(080); in AS it gives me a syntax error. If I replace 080 with 060 or 050 etc it's OK. (I also have the same problem with 090. )
I have tried this one line of AS on a different computer in a new flash document with only this one line of code and I still get the error. Anyone any ideas as to why and whether there might be a fix?
I can get round it by renaming some variables I'm just amazed that it doesn't appear to work.
aperture May 22, 07, 12:44 p.m.
anyone use it professionally? is it a nice to have software or part of an essential toolkit?
CD ROM project May 1, 07, 3:55 a.m.
Am about to create an interactive CD ROM for a client. In the past we've done these using Director and flash. However, am now thinking about doing this only using flash. Anyone had any experience of flash based CD ROMs compared with Director based ones?
We'd need to be able to launch PDF/Word documents from the CD. It's not too difficult to do this with Director but Flash doesn't offer this directly. Anyone used the MDM/ZINC application which modifies the Flash FS COMMAND?
You're thoughts are welcomed!
Printer for digital photographs Mar 19, 07, 11:48 a.m.
What are professional photographers using to print digital prints with these days? I'd like archive (or long lasting) high quality prints possibly up to A1. At the moment we have an HP 120 designjet but the inks are only for proofing. Would like to get a printer which gives high quality prints which can be sold to clients.
Any thoughts - we have a sensible budget!
Bootcamp or Parallels Nov 9, 06, 3:24 a.m.
Thinking of getting a new mac - MacBookPro. Am PC based at the moment (Sony Vaio Notebook). Is Bootcamp stable enough to rely on and use commercially or should I be looking at Parallels. Basically I have to be able to run PS/flash etc. and from what I can gather they're crap on Intel Macs. I don't really want to buy a PC again as they look like shit but I do need to be commercially sensitive as I need it to "run my business". So I can't have something which is "flakey". Any thoughts or real world experience?
Mac + Adobe + flash Oct 19, 06, 3:01 a.m.
OK, two topics just read on here. about Macs and PS and Macs and Flash. Can I have some opinions about Intel Macs and working with PS and flash. I'm talking about real work situations where you have PS, flash, dreamweaver all open at the same time.
I'm considering a Mac PB but the evidence so far appears to be that PS runs slow, Flash runs slow, and seeing as the majority of web users (clients etc) have IE on a PC, what's the business argument for going down a Mac route. I'm not into PC/MAC debate here, I think the MAC looks better than a PC . . bla bla... What I need to know is the answers to the above as an argument for switching to Mac.
Really appreciate input from those using Macs who've switched.
Cheers.
ecommerce site Sep 28, 06, 7:26 a.m.
Anyone recommend software/hosting for ecommerce. I've looked at Actinic BUT that's PC based and my client has a MAC. Any mac users/developers know of similar software which works accross platform. I guess its more likely to be webbased - in which case anyone know a host for that kind of thing?
Much appreciate the advice.
ecommerce sites Jun 19, 06, 4:13 a.m.
anyone any experience with the technical aspects of building an ecommerce site? I'm thinking about the credit card transaction processing bit? Is this hard to set up and configure?
your office Feb 3, 06, 5:49 a.m.
hi,
am about to rent an office. It's only one room - but effectively a blank canvas for me.
Anyone have any pictures of your work spaces (similar to the recent shots in Creative Review which showed creative offices big and small) so I can steal all the good layout and furniture ideas?
French Typeface Nov 30, 05, 2:14 a.m.
I'm trying to create some packaging which must look French. Anyone know the name of a typeface which will give me that classic french look?
Thanks
liquid layouts Nov 4, 05, 12:27 p.m.

Also any views on the liquid vs fixed width argument?
Thanks
Artwork sign off form Sep 15, 05, 9:11 a.m.
Anyone got an artwork client sign off form I can copy?
I want the client to sign their approval of work - otherwise I'm in a cycle of changes and more changes and no paper trail to back me up.
Any help appreciated - just need to be sure I cover everything on the form.
adobe bridge Jul 25, 05, 8:49 a.m.
Anyone use it effectively? I'm finding it very slow and I can't really see the point of it.
Is it because I was always organised with my versions before I used bridge or am I missing something?
Can someone tell me how it's more effective than good "house keeping and file management"?
registering domains May 24, 05, 2:54 p.m.
I'm based in the UK but I have a client who is UK based but who wants to register amongst others domains .de and .fr How do I do this? I can manage all the usual .com/.co.uk but who do I use for country specific domains if neither I nor the client are actually resident in those countries? Do I need an address or agent in those countries (france and germany). Any help on this would be very much appreciated.
