I Meet Beck Tomorrow

My friend won a radio contest and the prize is we get to go backstage and shoot an interview with Beck before he goes on! Then we get to film the first few songs of his set!
I've been a fan of Beck for a loooong time, and this is fucking awesome!

*Oh it's a cross promo contest with FLIP video cameras, hence the filming stuff. Then our footage will be used in a "Beckumentary" or some shit. AHHHHHHHHH! Fuck yeah!

Pumpkin Ale

I'm enjoying a fine POST ROAD Pumpkin Ale by Brooklyn Brewery. It's been a while since I've had anything except a Pale Ale but damn, this is tasty

Thoughts on Athens

Returned on Monday from a week-long shoot for work. Here are my thoughts.
The Parthenon and other sites are mindblowing.
The rest of the city is unimpressive.
People are nice, smoke entirely too much.
Alfa beer was my week long drink of choice.
Rented a scooter on Aegina island and that was great.
Still feeling a bit jetlagged, coming around though.

Countdown to Greece

In about 6 hours I'll be boarding for the 11 hour flight to Athens. Going for work, but will have two days off and we're trying to get to either Santorini, Mykonos, or Ios.
Moussaka in yer face!

coffee - rediscovered

I just got a new coffee maker and made my first cup this morning. Holy shit. I seriously never new coffee could taste this good. The beans get ground up and slide right into the filter.
Grinding beans per serving is the way to go. Just had to share that groundfuckingbreaking revelation.

Tonight Metalheads Dingbatz

My band is playing tonight at a bar called Dingbatz. http://www.dingbatznj.com Yes. Someone told me this was the bar in the Sopranos that Christopher's girlfriend owned? We're the only non-metal band on the bill. So if I don't come back from this outing alive, it was nice knowing ya.
Oh good, it's starting to dump rain outside...this should do wonders for attendance.

My friend's commute today

There's a heatwave of sorts in NY and this is my friends account of his morning commute...

The Bus
This morning I took a later bus the previous two weeks. As I stood sweating in the shade of the bus stop shelter I eagerly anticipated the sight of the bus breaking the horizon line and bringing me all the promises of air conditioned comfort it held within. Unfortunately, as the doors swung open it was not the sound of angels singing that hit me, but rather a blast of hot stale air from within. My promise of a comfortable ride into the Port Authority quickly gave way to the reality that the air conditioning on this bus was non-existent and I would be sweating my ass off on the first leg of my commute this week.

The Subway
I'm sure all of you at one time or another have stood on a subway platform in the middle of a NYC heat wave, this is not a place you want to be for very long. So as I walked down the Port Authority tunnel towards the uptown "E" train and heard the train entering the station below I decided to make a run for it. As I hit the platform I could see every car was packed and every door had that one person trying to squeeze their way in....except for one car up ahead. Again, I decide to go for it since I didn't want to sit on that platform for a second longer than I need to. As I angle my body to slide through the closing doors I quickly realize - though too late to do anything about it - why this particular car is close to empty....there are two homeless dudes sleeping on the bench and both have clearly shit themselves! I'm not talking really bad fart smell, I am talking the most disgusting, vile, oppressive smell you could even come close to trying to imagine filling the entire car. You could actually feel the stench on your skin. The few idiots that are in this car with me are literally standing there holding their noses. And as a little extra FU, NO AC ON THIS TRAIN EITHER!!! I make it through to the next stop and jump out into the next air conditioned car.

This was truly one day I would have traded the energy and excitement of the big city for the mundane banality of a Secaucus office park. Please pray for me that my commute home is as pleasant as my commute in was terrible.

Chicago, sort of...

I filtered this topic and got a lot of good links, but my situation is that of an express day (this Sat) to visit the city, in proximity to where I'm staying.

I get in around 3pm and I'm going to be staying up near Lake Forest which seems to be about 30 miles north of the city.
Now my q's:
Is that a decent area? Or is it suburbs?
Is there a train that runs that way or should I cab it? The cubs are playing early that day so no ball game.
Any info will help - thanks!
