Half a year ago I emailed an image to a local daily newspaper's weekly reader's photo contest. It's a free paper operating in a few countries, apparently belonging to some bigger media company. I won 2nd prize, my picture was printed, I got a €50 check that covered a few beers during the weekend.. It was fun, even my boss came to my desk with congrats.

My gf was reading today's issue and suddenly she goes "is this your picture?". Yup. They cut half of it and illustrated some column.

I remember winning some beer money for a prize, but not selling any rights to the image.

There weren't any terms/conds written anywhere neither in the paper nor on their website.

I am thinking of billing them.. Do you think this would be the proper way? I am wondering what to charge.. I'm not really after money here, just don't feel good being ripped.

I just came back from a Spoken World gig like 7 minutes walk from my place. It's a fokking nice way to spend your Tuesday evening in your local community.

Up until about last year, there were loads of Barcelona threads on nt. You could browse all the old ones with repeated info and still new ones would emerge periodically.
Now that the old threads disappear after 3 months hardly ever people are asking about it. What happened? Ppl are fed up with it? Everyone's been there done that? Everyone knows wages are shitty there and there's no need to ask?
There's nothing to see but a gazillion of tourists?..

Now that we've seen it and it's in beta, that is probably the best time for our input. They went as far as to answer our questions about certain functionalities, this is refreshingly unprecedented. The kindness gate might close however once the thing is released, so let's naively suggest things while we may be listened to!

- searching among all posts, not just the initial ones (JK confirmed it's on the list)

- more rss goodness (although these can be server killers)

- colouring threads we took part in. I know we can bookmark threads now, but this would be even nicer than dog-ears

-permalinking to posts with # and context above and below, rather than single postings out of context

I will be in Barcelona for a week in July for http://www.summercase.com but will have a few days to spend outside the city. Any suggestions, places to stay, nice towns/villages, beaches without concrete hotels? We sure will go to Cadaques (again) for 2-3 days, but wouldn't mind someplace new. It's gotta be on the coast though.. :)

Lisbon Treaty Jun 11, 08, 2:57 p.m.

EU constitution, turned down in referendums by the French and Dutch got rebadged to a "treaty" so that it wouldn't have to be be voted for by people, only politicians in 26 of 27 EU countries. It is supposed to go smoothly this time: "don't ask the people because they don't want it".

Ireland is the only one to hold a referendum, this Thursday.

The treaty is supposed to create European Union as a legal entity, with a president. It gives the powerless so far EU parliament ruling power above national parliaments. It takes away national veto power on most issues and opens a way to create an EU army.
Interesting, what the Irish referendum outcome will be. A 'no' means back to the drawing board.

I will be there in 3 weeks for a weekend..
We want to just wander around, see what's worth seeing. I was there once a couple of years ago, but it was business and only for 2 hours.

What's to see, eat, drink?..
Is the Midi station neighborhood safe? I'm booking a hotel there, also we'll have a bus to the airport from that area at 4.30am - this better not be too shady ;)
